The Village of Celoron, NY is pleased to announce the receipt of a $20,000 donation from Ernie Boch, Jr. of Norwood, Massachusetts toward the creation of a new statue of Lucille Ball to be placed in Lucille Ball Memorial Park, Celoron, NY.
“Lucille Ball was America’s most beloved actress and comedian of the 20th Century. I had tremendous affection for Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel. Lucille Ball was so talented and iconic that I’m delighted to give the village of Celoron, New York the best statue they deserve,” stated Ernie Boch, Jr., President and CEO of Subaru of New England.
Mayor Scott Schrecengost commented, “The Village of Celoron is very grateful to Mr. Boch for his very generous donation. We are in the process of forming a committee to review the many resumes that have been received from individuals who are interested in creating a new statue.”
At their April 13, 2015 Board Meeting the Village Trustees voted not to alter the existing statue and at their May 11, 2015 Board Meeting they voted to enter into an agreement with the National Comedy Center to allow them to have possession of the statue, contingent upon the completion of a replacement statue, with the Village of Celoron retaining ownership. The National Comedy Center would insure the statue and help the Village with fundraising for a replacement statue.
