A long mirrored walk leads to an open sitting room, hung with a crystal chandelier. The walls depict a picturesque Roman scene, complete with white columns. A fireplace glows from the corner, casting a warm light over the waiting patrons. Guests wander in, greeted as old friends, and are guided into the gleaming salon, where beautification awaits. A photo of the late Sam Paladino beams out over the gilded parlor, the original owner never having truly left. Sisters Deborah Gullo and Kandy Lombardo have taken up their father’s mantle, moving forward with the family business. Dorian’s Plus Salon provides style and splendor downtown, harkening back to the heyday of Jamestown.
Dorian’s Plus Salon opened its doors 65 years ago, and has been a booming success ever since. “My father, Sam Paladino, was the original owner. He and his wife started it in 1947.” Deborah says. Sam Paladino brought not only an elegant salon to the area, but was also very active in the community, through numerous organizations, including the Lucille Ball Little Theatre and the Jamestown Rotary Club. Continuing on in his legacy, Deborah and Kandy are very familiar with the family business: Deborah has been there for 40 years, while Kandy claims 35 years involvement. “We really are the people’s salon,” Deborah explains. “My parents worked hard to make it this way.”
Men, women, and children are welcome in the well-equipped establishment. “We have a salon in a salon; there is a salon up front for men, and a salon in the back for women,” she says, with a smile. “It’s a very family friendly salon.” A wide variety of services are available, such as color, highlights, perms, haircuts, waxing, and more. Every member of their team is familiar with everything the salon offers, providing knowledgeable and well-practiced services. Dorian’s welcomes bridal parties looking for a gorgeous look, and also hosts children’s birthday parties. “It’s not your typical old person salon…it’s not just a hipster salon,” Deborah says of their well-rounded offerings. “I serve people who are from 88 to 2 years old.”

Tuesday and Thursday they are open from 9 am to 7 pm, while they are open Saturday from 9 am to 3:30 pm. “Parking is free on Main Street and Third Street; a lot of people don’t realize that.” Deborah says with a grin. “Come in and get taken care of!” For more information or to make an appointment, give them a call at 716-484-1883, or stop in.
