One of the area’s most successful high school coaches will be inducted into the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame.
Dave Polechetti, who guided boys basketball and girls softball teams for two decades at Fredonia Central School, will join 10 other honorees at the CSHOF’s 36th annual banquet, which will be held Monday, Feb. 20 at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. A Dunkirk High School graduate, Polechetti coached basketball for 21 years, posting a 281-180 record. During that span, he directed the Hillbillies to six league and two Section VI championships in addition to one Far West Regional crown. Along the way, he was named the 1992 Post-Journal Coach of the Year; guided Fredonia to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Final Four in Glens Falls in 1994; and served on the Section VI basketball committee from 1988-2011.
Polechetti was equally successful for 20 years as a coach on the softball diamond where he compiled a 286-116 record to go along with seven league, five Section VI and three Far West Regional titles. A member of the Section VI softball committee from 1988-1994, Polechetti was the 2007 Post-Journal Coach of the Year.
