As a result of major business developments secured by the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) like the Athenex Manufacturing Center, Fieldbrook Foods and the Chadwick Bay Marina, Chautauqua County was recently ranked second by Buffalo Business First in a list of 18 areas in Western New York for value of development projects. This is the second year in a row Chautauqua County sits near the top of this list, due in large part to the economic development efforts of the CCIDA.
The 56 developments in Chautauqua County are valued at a total of $2.80 billion, according to Business First’s annual issue of “Core Strength,” which outlines major development news in Western New York. Chautauqua County was ranked ahead of areas which include the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and Buffalo’s Canalside.
“We are extremely excited about being ranked number two (2) in economic development in the financial value of ongoing projects by our region’s premier business publication. It is a testament to the significant development that is taking place in Chautauqua County,” said Kevin Sanvidge, CEO of the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA). “It’s the mission of the CCIDA to facilitate development in Chautauqua County by attracting new businesses while working closely with existing business to ensure they have the resources necessary to meet and exceed their goals. It is through the dedication, hard work and enthusiastic attitude of our employees that has made this possible.
Chautauqua County’s growth can be traced back to the CCIDA and its success in growing the existing business community and bringing in new businesses through working closely with the State of New York to offer incentives such as tax abatements, low interest loans and bond financing. The developments the CCIDA is responsible for attracting to Chautauqua County include:
- Athenex Manufacturing Center, a 320,000-square-feet manufacturing plant for oncology drugs, valued at $1,620 million
- The $33 million Chautauqua Harbor Hotel
- $500 million in commercial windfarm developments within the county
- A $6 million expansion of Fieldbrook Foods plant in Dunkirk, NY
“Chautauqua County being ranked second out of eighteen Western New York Areas in economic development is evidence that our county is on the move,” said Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan. “We are making great strides to attract, retain and grow businesses in our county and I congratulate the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development and the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency for their hard work in achieving this ranking.”
Other development projects of note in Chautauqua County include the DoubleTree Jamestown, a $19.6 million hotel development undertaken by the Hamister Group, LLC; and the construction of the National Comedy Center in downtown Jamestown, valued at $45 million.
