Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System & Seneca Nation of Indians Libraries Hosts 2018 Big Read

The Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System and Seneca Nation of Indians Libraries kicks off its NEA Big Read celebration of The Round House by Louise Erdrich with a community public keynote and celebration of Native American Culture on Wednesday March 14, 2018 from 6 PM – 8 PM at the Seneca-Allegany Casino & Resort Events Center. The NEA Big Read in Chautauqua & Cattaraugus Counties is presented in partnership with all 36 member public and association libraries, SUNY College at Fredonia, SUNY Jamestown Community College, St. Bonaventure University, Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES & Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES.
The event will feature Liselotte Erdrich, author, educator and sister of acclaimed author, Louise Erdrich. There will also be traditional Seneca Nation dance and song, as well as a buffet dinner, including some Seneca delicacies! This event is free and open to the public on a first come, first serve basis for the first 200 guests. A raffle will be held at the end of the evening for autographed copies of Liselotte Erdrich’s books, as well as some unsigned copies of The Round House.

The Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Region is one of 75 communities nationwide participating in the NEA Big Read from September 2017-June 2018. From March 14, 2018 to May 16, 2018 our community will celebrate The Round House with a full calendar of events including book discussions, special cultural and art performances and exhibits, as well as other speakers throughout both months.
An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book.
