Chautauqua Alcohol & Substance Abuse Council
In collaboration with the Salvation Army and the Chautauqua Center of Dunkirk, Chautauqua Alcohol & Substance Abuse Council (CASAC) will be providing a “Hidden in Plain Sight” presentation on August 17th. This presentation outlines the current trends in the concealment of drugs, and the importance of being aware of such strategies. Parents and those who work with teens are able to navigate a “mobile bedroom”, and search for hidden drugs, drug paraphernalia, and other drug references throughout the room. The presentation will provide information on Substance Abuse Indicators that parents need to be aware of. These specific substance abuse indicators include behavioral, cognitive and physical characteristics which are designed to signify a warning or red flag that something is not right and needs a little more exploring.
The Community Carnival is hosted by Faith Baptist and The Salvation Army in collaboration with The Chautauqua Center’s Community Family Fun Day. The event will take place at the Salvation Army in Dunkirk, located at 704 Central Avenue, from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. CASAC will provide three 20 minute “Hidden in Plain Sight” presentations from 1-5pm, and Spanish translators will be available.
This program is supported, in part, by funding from the Chautauqua County Youth Bureau and the Council on Addiction of New York State (CANYS). This funding allows CASAC to recreate elements of Orange County’s popular “Parent Program on Teen Drug Use and Concealment”. The presentation is intended for individuals 25 years of age or older. For more details contact Laurie Reynolds, Director of Program Services, at CASAC’s Jamestown Office at 664-3608.
