It has the power to instantly liven up any dish and treat some of the most common ailments. Do you know how to grow garlic? Come to the Cornell Cooperative Master Gardeners Evening in the Garden, August 15th at 6:00pm, and meet some Master Gardeners who will be discussing the types of garlic that grow well in our area, when to plant garlic, and how to care for it after harvest. Wicki Stapleton, Master Gardener, will lead the garlic discussion and will also discuss the benefits of winter sowing. On the agenda there will be a discussion on How to Water for Better Tasting Crops led by Faith Segrest, Master Gardener. As usual, we will have an “Ask a Master Gardener” time for your questions. Free soil Ph testing will also be offered if you bring a small, dry, soil sample to the event.

The Evening in the Garden is held in the Master Gardener’s demonstration garden at the Frank Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, in Jamestown. Come see what is growing in our garden.

The Master Gardener Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua). CCE-Chautauqua is a subordinate governmental agency with an educational mission that operates under a form of organization and administration approved by Cornell University as agent for the State of New York. It is tax-exempt under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The association is part of the national cooperative extension system, an educational partnership between County, State, and Federal governments. As New York’s land grant university Cornell administers the system in this state. Each Cornell Cooperative Extension association is an independent employer that is governed by an elected Board of Directors with general oversight from Cornell. All associations work to meet the needs of the counties in which they are located as well as state and national goals.
