Arts Council And Reg Lenna Civic Center Announce Creative Competitions

JAMESTOWN – Arts Council For Chautauqua County and Reg Lenna Civic Center are staying active this summer by offering participation in two creative competitions.

On July 26 at 6pm, Arts Council will launch the Insomniac Competitive Film Festival. Participants will have 24 hours to conceive, film and edit a short film between two and a half and 4 minutes in length. The twist is, a list of elements will be released at the start of the competition. Three of the elements must be evident in the final film to qualify for the competition. A panel of judges will review these entries. On Saturday July 28, the films will be screened before a public audience in the Reg Studio Theater at 108 East Third Street in Jamestown.

The Reg Lenna Civic Center and Arts Council team up on August 18 for a Cardboard Boat Regatta at McCrea Point in Jamestown. Registered competitors will construct “human-powered” boats made from corrugated cardboard, operated by at least one crew member and sea-worthy enough to race a short distance in the outlet. Individuals, businesses and organizations are encouraged to compete. Sponsorship packages are also available. All proceeds from the Regatta will benefit both of the hosting organizations. Jamestown Container has graciously donated cardboard for participants.  Upon registration, competitors may pick the cardboard up at the Reg Lenna Civic Center.  Supplies are limited and the material will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
