Local author Joan Lindquist has a new “2020 Remembering Brooklyn Square II”
calendar that will be a great addition to your holiday shopping list. It’s the perfect gift for that family member or friend that loves Jamestown and wants to learn about local history.
The calendar’s photographs are from a variety of sources, including the Fenton History Center’s vintage photo archives/collections. Mrs. Lindquist said, “One in particular is a photograph of the World War II Honor Roll Service Board placed in Fenton Park, below the mansion, that listed the names of 5,000 men and women from Jamestown who served in the war. The photograph shows the Honor Roll Board before it was entirely destroyed by the June 10, 1945 tornado. I have used it for the November 2020 photo.” She added, “I remember the Honor Roll when I was a preschooler because I lived on Derby Street, right across S. Main from Fenton Park, as we used to call it. Anyone born after the 1945 tornado has, of course, never seen it and many may not even know it existed.”
The calendars will go on sale November 12th at the Fenton History Center Gift Shop and Off the Beaten Path book store in Lakewood. The cost is $9.95. It’s a great price, so stock up for all your gift giving.
